Recreational opportunities abound on the Lackawaxen. Whitewater rafting and kayaking along the Lackawaxen is best within five miles of the confluence of the Delaware and Lackawaxen. This section of river is classified as a Class II-III section by American Whitewater.

Fishing the Lackawaxen could be the best fishing you will ever do! Many believe it’s the best trout fishing in Pennsylvania.

Within the Lackawaxen watershed are 248 lakes, including the massive 5,700 acre Lake Wallenpauapack. Swimming, skiing, boating and sailing are all mainstays of the lake. There are four recreational areas for camping and hiking. There are thousands of lake homes and a ski area close by.

There are many historical sites along the Lackawaxen, including the Zane Grey home and the Roebling Bridge, both a part of the National Park Service. There is great shopping in the small towns of Hawley and Honesdale.

There are scenic drives along the river, from the Delaware, all the way to the headwaters of the Lackawaxen at Belmont Lake.
